Apply to change your standalone medium combustion plant or specified generator permit

Use this service to change your medium combustion plant or specified generator permit.

Check which changes you can make

Knowing your change type helps you:

Change a name or address

To change a name, address or contact details where there has been no change of legal entity, apply for an administrative change.

Remove a combustion unit

Apply for a minor technical variation.

Change or add a combustion unit

Follow these steps to find your change type.

  1. Start with the minimum screening distances to habitat sites table on this page.

  2. If your changed or new combustion unit screens out, apply for a minor technical variation.

  3. If your changed or new combustion unit screens in, you then need to use the Simple Calculation of Atmospheric Impact Limits Combustion screening tool (SCAIL).

  4. If your changed or new combustion unit screens out using the SCAIL screening tool, apply for a simple bespoke normal variation.

  5. If your changed or new combustion unit screens in using the SCAIL screening tool, apply for a complex bespoke variation. You will need to provide an air quality modelling assessment and any other relevant assessments with your application.

  6. If you currently have a Standard Rules permit and your proposed changes mean that you can no longer meet these rules you will need to apply for a substantial variation, either simple or complex, depending on whether you need to provide an air quality modelling assessment with your application.

  7. We may also advise you that you need to apply for a substantial variation if you are planning significant changes to your operations that will need a high level of detailed assessment during the determination.

Timescales

We will make a decision within four months of receiving a complete application and the correct fee.

We will check your application and confirm it is complete. If it is complete we call this ‘duly made’. If it is not complete we may request further information from you. The four month timescale does not begin until we consider the application duly made.
