Early careers: Placements, apprenticeships and graduate roles

We’re committed to helping you build the skills and experience you need to start your career, while making a real difference to Wales’ environment. With roles available across Wales, you’ll be based at your nearest office and may have the flexibility to work in a hybrid way, from home, or out in the field depending on your role.

Join us on a placement and start making a difference from day one. In return you’ll benefit from a generous package, including a weekly wellbeing hour, 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays!) and the Civil Service pension scheme.

We offer a range of opportunities, including apprenticeships, student placements, paid internships and graduate roles.

Apprenticeships

Our apprenticeship roles are suitable for school or college leavers, or those seeking to retrain, who are aged 16 years and over.

Our apprenticeship opportunities will be advertised on our main jobs page. We’ll be offering apprenticeships in conservation, laboratory services, fleet and facilities and business administration.

Student placements (sandwich year/industry placements)

These placements will be aimed at students currently studying a degree (undergraduate or postgraduate), typically a sandwich year for a course which requires a year in industry.

These roles will be advertised on our jobs page, usually between November and January.

Graduate placements

Our graduate placements will be for people who have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, and will usually be 12 months long. We’ll advertise these roles on our jobs page, with graduates for the current year’s cohort joining us in September. There will be a range of graduate roles in regulation and permitting, flood risk management, our people and places operational teams, and finance.
